Welcome to Our Project Page on Traffic Safety Improvements for Haro Park Terrace!

Hello, Haro Park Terrace residents! We're excited to share information about potential traffic safety improvements in your neighborhood. After hearing your concerns about vehicle speeds and pedestrian safety, we've been working together to develop solutions that make our streets safer for everyone.

In 2022, we successfully implemented some traffic safety measures on nearby Forest Park Drive, thanks to valuable input from some of you. Building on that success, we're now considering adding speed humps along Haro Park Terrace and extending the sidewalk near the intersection with Forest Park Drive to provide a safer walking path, especially for our school children.

History

Prior to implementing the traffic safety improvements on Forest Park Drive in 2022, a group of residents on Haro Park Terrace engaged with the District regarding concerns with vehicle speeds on their street.

The District has continued its engagement and is now considering requests for additional traffic safety measures on Haro Park Terrace. In the latter half of 2024, the District met with this group to further discuss their concerns. Through collaboration, a proposed roadway treatment was developed, which includes speed humps along Haro Park Terrace and an extension of the sidewalk near the intersection with Forest Park Drive.

The intended outcome of the speed humps is to reduce vehicle speeds, while the sidewalk extension aims to provide a safe space for schoolchildren by keeping them off the roadway near the intersection with Forest Park Drive.

Based on additional community feedback received in late 2024, the District has learned that not all residents of Haro Park Terrace are aware of this proposal. As a result, the District has initiated a direct mailout to all residents on Haro Park Terrace to provide more information and request feedback. We plan to collect this feedback and present it at a future Council meeting for consideration.

For more information on the history of this issue, relevant resident correspondence, and resulting Council decisions, please review the attached links, all of which are publicly available on our Meeting Portal Website or here on Connect North Saanich.

These improvements aim to reduce vehicle speeds and ensure a safer walking environment for our kids and all pedestrians. We need your feedback to make this happen! We've sent out detailed mailers to gather your thoughts and invite you to participate in this important decision-making process.

Stay tuned for updates, and please complete the quick poll below. Together, we can make Haro Park Terrace a safer place for our community.

The survey will be open until April 8, 2025 and the results will be presented to Mayor & Council at a future meeting.
